To Him Who Left

She dined alone that night
Sitting at a table set for two
She fought tears with all her might
She didn't want to cry for you
She walked on down the road
Her hand searching for your touch
Tears streaming, wishing she had told
How she hated you so much
She'd be sleeping alone in bed
That bed would be empty and dry
Because you took off instead
So you couldn't see her cy
After you told her you loved her
After you had her trust
You took off and ruined her future
Because your heart was full of lust
And maybe she'll learn to be okay
And maybe your mistake will fix itself
And turn into what she needs to take the hate away
To pick the book back up and put in on the shelf
One day she'll tell him who left
Just what he walked out on
How she was left with the greatest gift
And how his life grew old and rotten
